Jayme Closs won’t have to testify against kidnapper: prosecutors

Wisconsin prosecutors Monday praised the bravery of 13-year-old kidnapping victim Jayme Closs — but said they are not about to put her on the witness stand to testify against her accused monster abductor.
“Jayme deserves enormous credit as a 13-year-old and for the bravery of what she has done,” Barron County District Attorney Brian Wright told reporters minutes after her suspected kidnapper, Jake Thomas Patterson, who is also accused of killing her parents, was ordered held on $5 million cash bail.
But Wright added that the “unbelievable” teen will not be asked to take the witness stand, at least at this point.
The DA said prosecutors would try to mount their case with the help of what’s in the criminal complaint — which included statements from both Patterson himself and Closs fingering the 21-year-old suspect — and other undisclosed evidence.

“The prosecution team you see here today wants justice for James and Denise Closs and Jayme Closs,” Wright said.
